[ 顕　~ 無明の森から ~ ]

仏教では、悩みや執着に心を覆われた状態を「無明」といいます。

そんな夜の森を彷徨うような時期は、誰の人生にもあるのかもしれません。

私もそんな無明の森で、ふと足元に目をやると、小さな花が咲いていることに気づいたことがありました。

見えなかったあいだも、ずっとそばにあった祝福。

光明とは、闇を消し去った先にある光ではなく、見えなくなっていたものが、もう一度静かに顕れることなのかもしれません。

京都・東福寺塔頭　光明院という静けさの中で、あなたの中にも眠っているその小さな祝福と、出会えますように。

顕 — From the Forest of Unknowing —

In Buddhism, “mumyō” refers to a state in which the heart and mind are clouded by suffering and attachment.

Perhaps we all experience times in our lives when we feel as though we are wandering through a forest at night.

I, too, have wandered through such a forest. Once, when I happened to look down, I noticed a small flower blooming at my feet.

A quiet blessing that had been beside me all along, even when I could not see it.

Perhaps light is not something we find only after darkness has been dispelled. Perhaps it is the quiet reappearance of what we had lost sight of.

In the stillness of Komyo-in, a sub-temple of Tofuku-ji in Kyoto, may you discover the small blessing that lies quietly within you, too.
